In soccer, there are numerous leagues throughout the world. After all, soccer is the biggest sport in the world because it is played in almost every country, unlike American football. The five biggest leagues are Premier League, La Liga, Ligue 1, Bundesliga, and Calico A. But the Premier League is by far the most popular and tightest. Here are my predictions on the Premier League for this season. Please check out my facebook page and follow my twitter.
1st Place: Manchester United
Most people think that Chelsea or Manchester City will win the Premier League this year, but I think that Manchester United will win it because they have made upgrades this year that might actually perform. Romelu Lukaku scored 25 goals in the Premier League last season for Everton and was probably the only reason why they finished 7th. Without him this year, they will probably finish 12th or lower. But he proved in his first game with Manchester United that he will continue to score, netting 2 in their 4-0 rout of West Ham.
Key Player: Paul Pogba
Another reason why they could win is because Paul Pogba will have a much better season. In his first season at Old Trafford, Pogba might have felt that he had to stay back on defense more because of their lack of defensive midfielders. But with the addition of CDM Nemanja Matic this season, Pogba can stay forward and be the playmaker that Manchester United expected they would get when they bought him last summer. Last season he scored 5 goals in the Prem, but this year he could score 10 and get more assists.
2nd Place: Manchester City
Manchester City will have a lot of expectations this season after being the busiest team in the Premier League in the transfer window. They signed Kyle Walker, Danilo, Benjamin Mendy, Ederson, Bernardo Silva, and Douglas Luiz. They will be neck and neck with Manchester United all season, but I think Man U will win the league simply because they will beat Manchester City in head-to-head games.
Key Player: Kevin De Bruyne
De Bruyne did not have a good season last year, scoring just 6 goals in the Premier League, even though he played 35 of the 38 games. For Manchester City to win games, he needs to start scoring goals consistently, because their strikers cannot do everything.
3rd Place: Arsenal
Arsenal was also busy in the transfer window, but more because of the quality they signed. They obtained Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon. Lacazette scored 129 goals in his career at Lyon, and he will need to keep netting them for Arsenal because Alexis Sanchez may not be returning to the club. They also signed Sead Kolanisic for free, which will help because he could be their starting left back.
Key Player: Mesut Ozil
Lacazette may need to score goals, but he needs someone to pass the ball to him. That would be Ozil. He was a decent goal scorer last season, but on a team like Arsenal, he needs to be one of the players setting up the strikers. If he can make chances for Lacazette and Olivier Giroud, he will be more impactful than he was last season.
4th Place: Chelsea
Chelsea won the league last season, but they didn’t do that much to upgrade their squad, unlike other teams. They signed Alvaro Morato, Tiemoue Bakayoko, and Antonio Rudiger. But they sold Nemanja Matic, Juan Cuadrado, Asmir Begovic, and Nathan Ake. And Diego Costa will most likely be leaving the club. Chelsea needs all of their players from last season to play as good as they did to win the league, and that is very hard to do. So I believe that Chelsea will drop down in the table this season.
Key Player: Alvaro Morata
With Costa most likely heading out, Morata needs to step up in the striker role. He scored 15 goals in La Liga last season, but the Premier League is a much more difficult league. He will need to live up to his transfer fee of 65 million euros.
5th Place: Liverpool
Liverpool signed some good talent this summer, including Mohamed Salah, Andrew Robertson, and Dominic Solanke for free. Salah was a great player for Roma, 29 goals in two seasons in Rome. He will be a player to watch for throughout the season.
Key Player: Roberto Firmino
Firmino will need to play well again this season after scoring 11 goals last season. He will also need to play well because he and Daniel Sturridge will be competing for the job of starting striker.
